About Pre-Access

Pre-Access qualifications are Level 2 programs developed in partnership with the National Open College Network (NOCN). They offer an entry point for students with little or no formal qualifications, providing foundational skills to support their progression into further studies, including the Access to HE Diploma.

Running Pre-Access courses provides a valuable foundation for students, supporting their progression and success in further studies. These courses help learners build confidence and develop essential academic skills, including literacy, numeracy, and employability skills.

Through tailored study experiences, students gain practical skills and experience in academic settings, making them more likely to retain and succeed in future programs, including the Access to HE Diploma. Pre-Access courses introduce learners to a variety of subjects, giving them an informed starting point for academic and vocational pursuits, which in turn enhances their commitment and achievement in subsequent educational pathways.

CAVA offers three Pre-Access qualifications - the Award, Certificate, and Diploma - each designed to provide a progressive learning experience at Level 2.

A 6-credit course for beginners, focusing on personal development and foundational skills.

A 21-credit qualification for those who have completed the Award or wish to develop further, covering essential study skills.

A comprehensive 37-credit course that deepens personal development, employability skills, and understanding across subjects like health, social care, ICT, and more.
